How To Select A Birthday Party Venue For Your Kids

When searching tirelessly for a birthday party venue for your kids, you’re secretly hoping you can find something that the parents might enjoy too. Birthday parties don’t have to suck for the adults if you do it right. We have put together a list on how to organize a birthday party to make it as easy and stress-free as possible.

Birthday Party Planning Checklist

1. Decide on a Theme

You may be asking yourself what is the best theme for a birthday party? We recommend thinking about the things your child loves and building a theme around them. For example, are they super active and love games and activities? Maybe you find an indoor trampoline gym where they can play endless games and burn off energy. Do they love karaoke and singing? Maybe you rent out a karaoke event space where they can sing their hearts out. Creating the theme around what your kid loves will create a birthday party they’ll remember for years to come.

2. Budget

Next, you’ll want to decide on a budget. We always recommend having an overarching master budget, but then breaking it down into smaller categories such as venue, food, décor, gift bags and so forth. This will help prevent overspending and makes it easier to track as you go. This will also help set a precedent for when you begin talking to different venues so they know the budget you have in mind.

3. Setting the Date and Time

You will want to make sure you set a date and time well enough in advance to give guests time to prepare and RSVP. We recommend sending invitations out 4-6 weeks in advance so people can add the event to their calendar. You will also want to consider the time of day you will have your event. Are the kids attending young and an earlier time might be more appropriate? Or are the kids older and maybe an evening event would be more fun for the kids and adults attending.

4. Venue Booking

Next, you will want to decide on the venue. Now that you have decided on a theme, this should help narrow down your options. Are you looking for an outdoor or indoor birthday party venue? Do you want a venue that provides all-inclusive options like an event planning team? Is there a convenient location for all your guests to attend and you would like to book a venue in that area? These are all important details to consider when choosing amongst event venues in California.

5. Hiring Services

Finally, you will want to consider the additional services that you will hire for your event. What is going to be your form of entertainment? Do you want specific activities included throughout the event? How will your event be catered? Do you want a valet or coat check? Is there additional furniture you would like to rent for the space? These are important details to consider and more often than not, the venue can help with these additional requests. Sometimes they have these services baked into their model, or they are well connected to provide these services through third-party companies.

At Ovation Square, we pride ourselves on being one of the biggest event venue spaces in downtown Long Beach. We are more than happy to connect you with our internal event planning team to make sure your next event is a huge success.
